Perfect paninis every time. Removable plates are very easy to clean. + here. I'll update later once I try opening the grill and frying the eggs. Don't bother with waffle irons. Get an actual waffle iron instead. I have tried several mixes and my own recipes and they are always flexible and make more at the bottom than at the top. I even tried turning them over. The only way they didn't come out flexible was to overdo them (so they almost didn't burn). FYI, Waffle Pans vs. Grill/Shallows: Foods cooked with the grill or flats in the closed grill position always cook evenly on top and bottom and are crispy. So the problem wasn't the grill, it was the heat distribution from the waffle iron plates to the batter. They just couldn't heat up fast enough. My real Belgian waffle maker, which doesn't flip, easily cooks both sides evenly, so that wasn't the case.
