I found a box of 20 year old audio cassettes but I didn't have a cassette player anymore. I knew these were tapes I had audio recorded my baby's sleep rituals from and I was dying to hear his voice again so I ordered this device. With this device, I can turn those old audio cassettes into files that I can play on my computer, iPod, or MP3 player. This unit isn't a regular cassette deck - it doesn't record new audio or play audio through speakers - but it does have a headphone jack so you can hear what's being dubbed. How it works :1) Install a small program on your Windows PC. The box says Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 but I'm using it on Windows 10 with no problems. The internal document states that it also supports Mac OS if your Mac has a built-in CD. 2) Connect your device to your computer with a small USB cable (included, but you'll need a USB port - and the cable is pretty short, so it should be available.) 3) Open your program ( Audacity) and change some settings described in the article. 4) Insert a cassette into the device and press the play button (with headphones connected to the device to hear it is recording). Press the "REC" button in the Audacity app and press "Stop" on both the app and the device when you want to stop. 5) The application allows you to edit the recorded content. I didn't try to use any editing features other than cutting out the superfluous parts of the recording with too much noise, too much silence, or too much annoyance at parents or toddlers. 6) When ready to save the file, select "Export" (which cannot be done during playback/recording). You can save the output in different file types. MP3, WAV are the two types I tried. Apparently you can also save as AIFF, GSM, Ogg Vorbic, WMA, AMR, M4A, AC3 or Flac. I have no experience with this so don't ask.
