This crescent-shaped grinder is very practical. I appreciate many Joseph Joseph products and this is one of them. I've used a knife when chopping herbs, but there's always a risk of accidentally cutting yourself. By keeping both hands on the shredder handles, your hands are not near the cutting edge. It takes some getting used to because you're used to holding things a certain way and have to relearn how to cut herbs differently. Once you start slicing you will be amazed at how sharp and well it cuts. I cut a lot of parsley, it cuts easily and brilliantly. I felt like a child learning something new for the first time. When you're done with it, you can wash it off - and be careful when washing it, because it wobbles around. I suggest holding it by the blade. Once dry, fold it over to cover yourself and protect the blade. This design takes up very little space in your kitchen drawer. It is well made, durable and available in multiple colors.
