They are made of plastic but look very nice once installed. I placed them on top of the yellow reflectors on the grille cap and they fit perfectly and match the metallic chrome on my bike perfectly. The safety of reflectors is not reduced by the "outfit", they are still noticeable, they only reflect 3 stripes instead of a square. However, note that these covers will not fit all Honda VTX-1800C reflectors as advertised. They don't match the red reflectors on the side of the rear fender because they are too close to the chrome. These can be modified by cutting or removing one of the long sides of the lid, but that's a pain in the ass.
