Although I'm new to cold brew, I did a lot of research before purchasing this cold brew system. And I would highly recommend it to anyone. A few quick tips for beginners.1. First, for those of you who use municipal water supplies, your water is probably chlorinated. I do, so before I start making a batch, I fill a large bowl with cold water and set it on the counter while I grind the coffee beans. This allows the chlorine to evaporate, not that it hurts anything, but I'd rather not put it in my coffee. Those of you who live in a private well need not worry about this.2. Then grind the coffee beans to a medium grind. Pre-ground coffee is probably fine, but most of it will seep through the strainer. There will be some more, but I'm slowly draining the last one and discarding anything that settles to the bottom.3. Then place the strainer and spacer in the glass and fill the strainer about half or 2/3 full with ground coffee. They expand when they get wet, so more than that is above the water level and wasted. Slowly pour water through the strainer and fill the container to the fill line.4. Don't cover it too tightly, especially if you're storing it in the fridge. The rubber pads harden when they get cold. So if you tighten them tightly, it becomes quite difficult to take the lid off to remove the bottom before use. 5. There are several factors that affect the strength of the final drink. First is the coffee beans you use, I use breakfast blend or breakfast blend. Next comes the brewing time, it usually takes me 15-20 hours. After all, you can influence the drink where you leave it. You'll get stronger coffee if you keep it at room temperature instead of in the fridge. I do a mix of both depending on when I start. When I make a batch in the morning, I leave it on the counter for a few hours and then put it in the fridge overnight. If I make a batch during the day, I just leave it on the table overnight. Finally, I remove the lid and take out the sieve and the coffee grounds. I drink my coffee straight because I use a medium blend. If it's too strong, you can always dilute it as you like. After drinking cold brew for a while, it's surprising how spicy hot coffee tastes now. I will never return.
