It helped us a lot when we removed the amplifier. I didn't know that the amplifier can really interfere with reception and this should be written in the instructions. We were about to return it but after reading about this particular antenna on the internet and some YouTube we finally figured it out. We don't seem to be as far from the antenna as we originally thought. Living in Southwest Seattle we figured we would need a more expensive model due to the trees and lots of hills. We could actually buy a cheaper model and still have great reception, but it would cost us almost 10 to send it back. For the small savings amount it would make no sense anyway. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is the manufacturer's lousy instructions. The seller was great. Buyer Warning. Do your research before you invest your hard-earned money. We've been reading about cutting the umbilical cord for months. There is so much to learn that it is overwhelming. Much luck!
