The fan is great especially when the laptop is getting old and the internal fan is not working. it protects against overheating and is quiet. The fan is powered from the laptop's USB port, along with a small light on the side of the desk. I have a working VPN login token with a dark LCD screen and am always looking for something to read. The light attached to this table is perfect for this as well as for reading the documents you are working on. Additional USB ports are very useful when needed. The block is plastic but strong enough. Telescopic legs to make it higher which makes it a good table, you sit on a low seat too, I use it with a 17" laptop and it's slightly off center but that doesn't bother me. I don't know if that's the only reason I want a bigger table. I always use the touchpad on my laptop because I don't like carrying around a lot of peripherals when I want to be portable. I have a regular table for that. I saw a few reviews where people said they didn't get the cable that connects the desk to the laptop. Mine was in a small storage compartment so I believe it should be included and you should contact them if you don't receive it. Adding on 06/07/2019 I got an error message that the USB was broken and the table stopped working. I found another suitable cable and connected it. It didn't work at first, but I tried various ways of pressing it against the port on the table. If I press and pin a little bit, it works again. Just because it stops working doesn't mean it's broken. just try a different cable.
