Has potential but needs adjustment due to old technology

When I, my mom and my sister moved back to Omaha, Nebraska to be with my family after my mom filed for divorce, we stayed for a while at my cousin . While there I tried out a Magnavox VHS/DVD combo recorder in their basement and while it works fine for DVD playback, part of the VCR ate a copy of the original Day the Earth Stood Still (which was annoying is because it's a very good movie) I've also tried burning some DVD-RW discs and the drive I use is really cheap on certain brands (in other words, some brands of DVD-RW work and some don't) . One of its advantages is component input support for better picture quality than Composite and S-Video. Some suggestions I have to fix is to clean the VHS heads thoroughly with a small piece of paper dampened with a small amount of cleaning solution. There are various videos on Youtube that explain how to do this. Another option is to replace an outdated drive with a more modern one, which can be found on Revain and Ebay at different prices. I could even try burning a Blu-Ray and see if that works despite the lack of HDMI. Of course there is also an early example of control lag in video games, even on a CRT TV due to picture conversion, which I can't fix yet, so it's best to to have two video outputs, one for the TV and the other for the recorder. Let's hope this helps. Update: My cousins gave me this VHS/DVD combo recorder for Christmas and I found quite a bit. One possible reason it ate through the tape could be the excessive amount of dust that has accumulated over the years. A good cleaning and an electronic spray that blows the dust away can help. Another weird thing I noticed is that if I connect the source to a 480p or higher component, the picture gets distorted for some reason. But it works fine under 480i. what happened to it But it works fine under 480i. what happened to it But it works fine under 480i.
