Our pet mouse loves to explore this expansion. It seems to me that this mimics crawling on the walls of the house, which is even scary when you think about it, but it stimulates our pet's mental development. :) We've been using it for over six months and have solved several problems people were having. The wall block is large enough to be the only living space for two small critters, but there are a few issues that make it a real problem if you decide to use this cage alone. The entire front opens for cleaning which means your pets are fully open while the front is open which may not be an issue if you have slow docile pets but Miss Mouse is anything but slow. You can't put any bedding in this item without soiling the wire mesh on the sides and even some spillage around the edges of the front door panel, but since we paired it with the Critter Universe base cage we can't use bedding in this piece , only in the main cell. Your pet will also scatter food. I suggest only feeding larger treats like apple slices or carrots in this cage as the small seeds and pellets from their main diet will fall out all over this thing. Using two cages makes it easier to care for our pet. I like it because I can block Miss Mouse in one of the cages and free to clean the other. A few people mentioned the smell and I had no problem with it. I clean the cages once a week and I really like how this thing is taken apart for cleaning. Each cube is removable and can be washed separately. Sometimes I just rinse it out and put all the parts in the dishwasher and they come up clean with no problem. I had very little wheel chews and food platters, but as some other reviewers have mentioned worse situations, you can replace the ladder, platter, and wheel, but if your pet chews on the pin in the center of the wheel, I can see it so would be useless as it is just a plug. If you have commercial chewing gum, you might want to use an old glass container and metal wheel. Overall we like this cage. My five year old loves watching his mouse climb and explore, and this cage places your pet right outside for maximum visibility. The mouse seems to enjoy finding the little treats that we leave for it in different cubes and it gets the exercise it needs by climbing up and down. Please note that this unit MUST be hung on a wall, it is too unstable to stand on a table and tip over.
