Bought a VN5000 a few years ago. I used it to record live radio broadcasts. It has a start/stop timer for recording shows. I liked it so much that I bought another VN5000 to record a second show at the same time. Then I saw the VN6000 which is very similar to the VN5000 except it can record twice as long as the VN5000 at any of the three speeds. All 3 recorders were bought used for less than $20! They don't have removable storage, but that's fine for my purposes. The recordings I make are radio conversations coast to coast. You can play shows at your leisure instead of listening to them at 2am! I also record podcasts from my computer (headphone jack). You can lie in bed or any other place to play content wherever you are. Of course it's better than flipping cassettes! It might not be for music, but that's what my Zoom H is for! and H2 come into play. Voice activation is also available. There is an internal microphone and speaker. There are jacks for an external microphone and headphones. The timer is the reason I bought them. Great little devices.
