I first bought them in 2013 out of desperation. I live in Chicago and bought a pair of fairly expensive pairs of boots for my 13 pound Chihuahua whose tiny paws can't stand the snow and extreme cold of Chicago winters. He could take off any pair of shoes I bought no matter how well I measured them. I thought they looked cheap and silly, but I had no choice but to take a chance because nothing else worked. Now, three years after I bought my first box, I don't know how we could do without it! First, I found them to be a lot easier to put on than they look (although having a very accommodating dog like my little human helps). I like to turn the dog on its back, grab the boot, stretch the muzzle with the index and middle fingers of both hands, and then just put the dog on the paw and let go. It can be a bit tricky the first few times, but soon I was able to do all four paws in under a minute. And unlike any shoe I've ever put on a dog, my Chihuahua doesn't walk awkwardly in them or refuse to walk at all. It's like there's nothing on it. What impresses me the most is how well these boots protect my dog's paws. When walking barefoot in the cold or snow, it usually only took about a minute for his paws to get unbearably cold and he would just freeze in place, one paw in the air. Then I'd have to go outside to pick him up myself because no amount of phone calls or flattery is going to make him stray from this place. In these boots he can easily go to the toilet and come back with dry feet. I've also noticed that he's lounging a lot more now that he's got those boots, which isn't necessarily a good thing if you want him to just do his thing and show up, but it's a testament to the boots fulfill their purpose. very good. Sometimes he comes back without one of his boots, but that was very rare. I recommend getting one of the bright colors so they're easy to find if you have a large yard and/or plan to use them at night. The first boots I bought were orange which made them very easy to spot when they fell. The boots I recently bought were black and definitely a lot harder to find. I also noticed that they are very durable. Of the two bags I bought, only one of the boots (one of the old ones) was torn. The only reason I bought another box of boots is because the orange color looked horrible with my dog's new blue snowsuit (stupid I know). And yes, they are very similar to the famous balloons, but balloons absolutely cannot successfully replace these boots. First, these boots are thicker and more durable than a regular balloon. Second, the collars of these gaiters are designed to fit the dog's leg almost perfectly and cause no discomfort. The same cannot be said for the narrow necks of balloons. My only issue with this product is that they seem overpriced. They feel like it costs way, way less to make than we charge based on the materials used. However, I definitely made my money's worth, so I have nothing to complain about. Overall I think these boots are one of the best purchases I have ever made for my dog. He won't be winning dog fashion awards any time soon, but at least he'll be warm.
