Used for very old chairs with reclaimed wood side panels so I didn't expect it to be too comfortable when sitting for a long time but I think the cushions are comfortable for me. I think it's ok to sit while eating if you use it in the dining room. Not very thick but just what I wanted with a wider old flared wooden seat and not too high. They really stay in place and don't slip. The addition of straps means I can move the chair without losing the cushion. The cover is very pretty and matches the pattern of my rug perfectly. At first I thought the ties were preventing the cover from sitting snugly on the elastic, but once adjusted it looks flat. I recommend these pillows.
