Review on Funrarity Mahjongg Mah Jongg Portable Waterproof by Louis Loebis

Short story I took from another brand's rules manual. Mahjong originated in China at the end of the 19th century. Playing cards originated in China a thousand years ago and took their form from early Chinese paper money. During the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), a paper deck called matiao became popular. Its cards are numbered 1 through 9, and its three suits were surprisingly similar to Mah Jongg. Gambling was illegal in China and paper cards were easy to throw away to avoid getting caught! However, in 1850 officials began to favor the use of hand-painted tiles in this game. Mah Jongg and his tiles soon followed. From its aristocratic roots, the game thrived after the founding of the Republic of China in 1911. After that, she entered the homes of seemingly everyone in China. Ma Jong came to the United States primarily through the efforts of a young Standard Oil businessman, Joseph P. Babcock. He translated the rules into English and added numbers to the tiles to make them understandable to the westerners he lived among in Shanghai. He soon began importing the game to the US, where the country's largest gaming company, Parker Brothers, obtained a license. By 1923, along with countless other companies importing kits under various names, Mah Jongg became the greatest gambling craze in North American history. All sorts of Chinese accessories also flourished. But the game suffered from a lack of common rules. By the time standard "Chinese" rules were settled, the game's popularity had waned. In 1937, however, the National Mahjong League was founded and a fixed "American" set of rules was also adopted. Both are still thriving today --> Some sets seem to have traditional characters and Chinese characters, so there's a learning curve here. But it also maintains a sense of authenticity.+ Symbols and quantities are easy to read.+ The cards have a light texture since they are not paper, which also makes them waterproof. I do not go anywhere. I don't know why, but a large, heavy box with tiles sat on the shelf for a long time. At least it's more portable with these cards and others are more open to trying this game for the first time. + I like the included rounded cubes. Personally, I don't like sharp edges that can break off after prolonged use. Sigh!
