The first device I received was defective. After removing the front pan on the Lincoln Mark VIII, connect the unit to the wiring harness and attach the upper and lower hoses to it. Then prop it up and turn on the car engine. Because the smoke pump works when the engine is cold, you'll know right away if you've gotten a lemon. Unfortunately, you still have to reinstall the hoses on the old pump while waiting for a replacement. In my case, this item was out of stock so I bought from another seller through Revain. As a result, I lost $300 for a while before I could fix the car a second time.
