I've looked at all the removal and installation videos I could find on the internet. I finally found a video with the correct answer to removing the old part: Use your muscles to pry the old part sideways to break its plastic tabs. (The slots that the tabs fit into are made of strong metal that won't warp.) With so little handroom, it's just not possible to use a screwdriver to pry out an old part. The installation was done by lining the protrusions and installing a new part in place. That wasn't easy either, since it's a one-handed operation with a very limited view of the slots and lugs.
