I've been using this printer for so long I can't even remember exactly how long. The best guess is that I've been using it for 4 years. It's a great, reliable printer, but there's something odd about the toner and toner usage. I have a small home office and don't print much. I even try to print as little as possible, but sometimes I have to. Looking at my paper usage I would say I printed around 3000-5000 pages. Pretty soon the printer reported that the tonal margin was low. Other than replacing the black toner, I have never changed a single cartridge. That means I've printed for 2 years with all the toner level indicators either "very low", then "unknown". After 4 years the colors started to go bad, but what was worse, the colors started to shift. Despite numerous recalibrations, this has not been corrected. This **could** be old toner. Or something else. I now had two options: 1. Replace the existing toner, at the risk that the misalignment was not due to the toner. So I would then have to buy a new printer, and broke the print on 4 new toners.2. Buy a new printer that comes with a 4-year supply of toner with a factory warranty (assuming normal use) for a fraction of the price of 4 replacement toners. So I chose option 2 and bought this printer. again. Buying a new printer is a strange act because it's more economical than toying with replacing the toner in the old one. The new printer, again a 1525, is of course much quieter than the old one. Strange. Works like clockwork.
