I have nothing but the fondest memories of playing with Colorforms as a child. I really loved peeling them off the black sheets and applying them to the scene provided. These Colorforms are not those Colorforms. This is not a bad thing, just a different thing. You get multiple sheets of colorful shapes and a blank board, and you are free to use the shapes to create anything you like. Theoretically, they can be combined to create almost anything, and a small pamphlet is included to give you just a few ideas. I wonder how many people can easily make the kind of picture they show, though, given you are combining lines and geometric shapes in colors far removed from nature. The shapes do lend themselves to mandalas and abstract art, and creative adults and kids will enjoy this. On a more practical note, I also plan to use them to get ideas for quilting and to create layouts for gardening, landscaping, and interior design.One caveat: these shapes are really hard to remove from their sheets. The cuts aren't clean, so be careful when you peel the backing away. I had to remove many pieces from the sheet and return them to their boards, and to hold down larger pieces as I pulled the sheet off. Holding the sheet up to light to check for stragglers is a good idea. Happily, the instructions included how to restore stickiness to the pieces and board, so I should lose fewer pieces to "slippage" as the set ages, although wiping with a damp cloth has its challenges when so many pieces are small or thin. I picture myself running them across a damp sponge in days to come.
