Doesn't work with Dell XPS 13

Doesn't work with my Dell XPS 13. I tried connecting HDMI to an external monitor and TV but neither worked. The laptop never recognized anything connected. I have tried using two separate HDMI cables which I have confirmed will work with other devices. I am returning the item.
