Review on DVD 4 7GB DATA 120MIN 100 SPINDLE by Eddie Rivas

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Some are scratched

This is said to be the spindle of new DVD+Rs. And those that were scratched were obviously not recorded. I went through half of the 100 (about 55) and the top 6 were scratched (the top of the spindle). The rest was fine. I hope the BOTTOM of the stack is ok. With that said, I bought 94 (hopefully) DVDs for a little over $26, which is 27.7 cents per DVD. This is an average value for medium quality DVDs. I haven't tested them for long term failure (I have a couple of Philips that are about two years old and will test them). July 18, 2015 I broke the 33% mark and faced 8 bad ones in a row. I look at the burnt side and there are rings in the paint. Like what you would get if you had already burned them. They appear blank and the burning process begins, but always fails on DVDs with these visible rings. I will post my poor total score when I hit 100. It looks like the source of the DVD has changed because the number on the clear ring has changed dramatically. The latest shipment from Philips has been identified as CMC Magnetics Corp. Media Type ID = M01. UPDATE: Went through the rest of the stack and none of the rest were bad. All were recorded and then modified. I decided to give Philips another try and the 100 spindle was in a better box, came straight from Revain stock and ALL were good. For this reason I added a star to the article. Update 12/25/2014: I checked 7 more spindles (700 DVDs) and only 1 out of 700 was bad. I'm happy with it, so I updated STAR again. Update 7/15/2015: Well this time I got a very bad set of 100!. The top 4 were immediately visibly damaged (apparently something heavy hit them from the side). Then, deeper still, about three of them had unfinished inner rings that prevented the piercing from completing. I've used about 20 out of 100 (including the bad ones) so I don't think I can return the rest. Doing the rest well is VERY expensive.

Pros
  • DVD+Rs
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than others
