Most of these cheap (and more expensive) shock absorbers consist of an outer frame and an inner clamp. They are connected by an elastic band that is hooked between them. The effectiveness of the shock absorber is based on the fact that the contact between the outer frame and the inner holder is limited only by the rubber band. The problem with this design is that the clips that allow the spring to open and the microphone to be inserted and extended make contact with the outer frame. So there really is no isolation. It's possible for something to bend, leaving a small gap between the clips and the outer frame, but the design is such that these adjustments aren't retained between uses. There should be more space between these parts. It's a good idea, but poorly implemented. I'm still giving it a few stars because with a little time and effort I could turn it into something workable.
