Velcro isn't long enough for fat feet

You'd think extra-wide shoes would accommodate fat feet... But the Velcro on these shoes was too short to begin with. But if you can't fully close the Velcro on the top of the foot, it just won't hold, and the worst thing is when the shoe comes off and the kid falls. It's not the velcro style I remember from my childhood where you had a lot of surface area and was very adjustable. For some reason this company decided to divide the velcro into sections and the longest section is too wide to fully and securely close. I don't know why they thought this design is a good idea for a very wide shoe. We have previously tried this company's all plastic water shoes but they were too stiff for the first pair of hiking shoes and they also had a velcro strap on the top of the foot which was too short. I am disappointed and switched to another brand. There's no point in spending so much money on shoes that don't fit. I think they will work for low fat feet, but if you don't measure your foot according to the chart like we did, then don't buy the Stride Rite.
