Review on LEZYNE Performance Computer Rechargeable Bluetooth by Matthew Burnett

UPDATE: Finally managed to run an update on the windows machine and update the GPS which fixed the problem. The well-known road bike website also had the same DOA experience in their test, which doesn't bode well for Lezyne's quality control. I took the GPS on a long trip and the screen is easy to read and the battery life is decent. The addition of offline maps is a good thing, although the auto-redirect is quite buggy and not much different from the original Super GPS. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Setting up a new route when you are already on a pre-planned route is sometimes problematic. I ran out of time before sunset on my test lap, and when I set up a new route, the GPS didn't recognize when I was off course. It doesn't automatically redirect unless I go back to my original course and constantly fiddle with the settings and my phone. What Lezyne does well with its navigation is that it recommends different routes based on your cycling preferences (e.g. one with more lift for a road bike and flatter for a commuter bike). But overall this is probably a product in the 3-3.5 star range, I'll round. You get what you pay for. --- Initial Review --- I was excited to try this Super Pro GPS which includes offline routing and maps, a higher resolution screen and a sleeker redesign. I've had my Lezyne Super GPS (previous generation for this unit) for about a season and a half now and it's not the most efficient GPS - connections to accessories get lost, get redirected and maps don't work half the time. , and there's more GPS drift than we'd like. What's changed: The case is a mix of matte and glossy plastic, but even on a brand new device, the bottom part of the case looked shabby - there's no quality control. The keys are also softer than the previous version, so it takes a lot more effort to record a press. I end up having to rest my hand against the other side of the GPS when switching between modes. Autonomous map routing works, but it's hard to tell as the device was immediately useless (see below). What hasn't changed: This device still relies on the internal accelerometer to determine when you're moving and when you're moving. stopped again. Sounds good, but you can't change this preset even if you have a speed sensor connected. As a result, the device takes 8 to 12 seconds to detect you're moving and again when you're stopped. At this point I am completing the route and the device is not recording any data. In comparison, my Garmin Forerunner takes 1 to 2 seconds to recognize when I'm moving and when I'm standing. It also doesn't automatically calculate the wheel diameter, which the Garmin device + speed sensor does by default. Pretty disappointing. The Lezyne software is still buggy in this new version. My last Lezyne GPS was immediately useless. Will it be different? I set up the GPS, plugged in all my sensors, took my first ride and the display locked after 1/4 mile. Buttons do not respond. Stopped and completely reset, after 1/4 mile it freezes again. Wash off and repeat twice more. Return home and look out for the firmware update. Download it to your computer (Mac OS Catalina), plug in the GPS and the updater tells me it can't communicate with the GPS. I go through all the steps and still can't update it. Now I have no way to update the device and it's immediately useless. Bottom Line: Even after years of working to get Lezyne right, Lezyne continues to struggle to get even the basics right (like devices that work out of the box!). Buy a Garmin you can buy for just over the $150 you pay for this device. It is not for nothing that Garmin is the industry leader in this area. Your stuff works out of the box, features have been carefully designed with attention to detail, and the software is well supported with updates and technical support. I will update this review when I get a chance to test this Lezyne GPS. Steps if I can get the updater working.
