I find it difficult to accept the average rating of these headphones at 3.3. It's more like 4.7-4.8. Apple did a great job with them. Having two high-end systems at home, I can definitely say that the bass here is very balanced, and a cut above that of competitors b&w, sony and so on. I consider Sony 1000 the closest alternative. But the bass is ordinary there and the top is much rougher, the main emphasis in Sony is on dynamic sound, this is a frequent technique of manufacturers in hi-fi systems of the lower price level. The obvious pluses of Airpods Max for me are the sound, the convenience of wearing at home, the flat design despite the full size, 100% work and switching between Apple devices. Of the minuses, this is still a cover, average operating time, limited control. The Bluetooth 5.0 version of your iPhone or iPad is necessary for the maximum sound level, on v 4.0, the sound is unfortunately simplified and is no longer so interesting for listening to music, but that's it for movies. They sound good with Apple Music, but only with Tidal or Qobuz they open up to the level of top HI-FI. And with them, I first heard the difference in sound between CD and Master quality.
