Review on πŸ“» Tecsun R9700DX: Advanced 12-Band Dual Conversion AM/FM Shortwave Radio for Exceptional Listening Experience by Justin Torres

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is a quality radio!

I've tried a few of these (ie small portable AM/FM/SW) radios. When I saw it was listed on Revain I thought what the heck if it doesn't meet the $50 value standard I can always return it for a refund. It's a keeper! I've been an AM broadcaster, both local and DX, and shortwave listener for about 70 years, so I'm speaking from experience. It looks like an analog radio and it's not as easy to read the frequency of the station you're listening to as it is with a digital radio, but you'll get used to it. If you're looking for a pocket-sized radio this isn't it, but you won't get this quality from a radio this size. It weighs a pound two ounces with four AA batteries and the protective case that comes with my kitchen scale; Dimensions 7 1/8" X 4 1/2" X 1 3/16" (they never seem to give you that info in online directory listings). It picks up every AM broadcast station I can find in that area ., during the day when no skipping occurs.FM reception is also good, without many FM stations being picked up on frequencies other than where they actually broadcast, like many "cheap" radios do.It was picking up some stations when i tried but unfortunately most of them have gone off the air in recent years and at the moment we have almost a minimum solar cycle so propagation is very poor i live near some strong ones FM stations and they appear as 'splashes' on most shortwave bands on this radio as well as a few others I've tried but as mentioned there hasn't been much on the shortwave bands lately and probably won't in future do not give - vie le of them, such as the BBC now broadcasts its programs online and on local FM broadcasts. Radio station (my local public radio station broadcasts it, but you have to get up pretty early to hear it there!).

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Slightly dented
