I understand most people buy these ball heads for cameras but I use them to hold devices, I've tried different brands and price points and the best way I can describe it is that I found a ball head for $40-$50 for about $16 Now back to what I use it for: I put together a couple of mounts to hold an iPad and Surface Pro, about 2 pounds (and at different angles at the same time), to be easily adjustable and accessible .Install stability (I've tried several high quality ball heads that are literally the same weight and put my hand off because of their weight.) This thing met all of those goals hey Also of note is that the cheapest ball heads have a nicely polished ball. which means they crawl with little vibration. This is structured and stays in place very well. The only way to improve on this ball head is to make the fixed base a little smaller in diameter (for people like me who need to mount it on something else and need clearance). for additional adjusting screws etc.)
