Scare away deer? great for outdoor cooking tools and supplies

I used this product to repel deer. They eat my hostas and pretty much everything I plant. Cut a bar of Irish Spring soap into 8 pieces. Place the bars of soap on the sharp ends of the skewers. Stick the spikes into the ground or pots over the plants you want to protect. They were only "planted" for a few days so I don't know if they will work. They sway in the breeze and look cute in my gardens and pots.
