When people say 'slim' optical drive, they don't mean a standard 12.7mm optical drive for laptops, they most likely mean a 9.5mm optical drive. He tried several different laptop optical drives I had on hand: the slot-loading UJ-265 and TS-TB23L and the tray-loading Pioneer, to no avail. All are positioned "thin" but do not fit in the top mount of this docking station. They are all too tall to fit under tongues. With all these 12.7mm optical drives, there's no way I'm going to spend money on a 9.5mm drive to get things working. It should explicitly say 9.5mm, not just "thin" since 12.7 or 9.5 are all referred to as "thin". Also, inserting it into my 5.25" dry-install-only bay leaves large gaps on both sides. not hidden behind a door it looks awful. The case I'm using is a really nice Mini-ITX aluminum case that's sitting on my desk so it has to look good. I will definitely send it back and look for another solution.
