I'm trying to make candy out of this, I can't leave the thermometer in the pot for more than 5 minutes without it overheating and the screen going black. When that happens I have to put it in the fridge for a few minutes to let it cool down and turn on. Now I heat it up and take it out because when it's close to my favorite spot and the screen goes black it's incredibly frustrating because with candy you really have to reach a certain temperature and nothing more nothing less or the consistency of yours will become bad products are long gone. The temperature is also very slow to read. I wouldn't suggest this for anything in the middle of a temperature above 200 Fahrenheit.
