Several tradesmen came to my house for renovations and repairs. I was concerned about new carpet and hardwood floors going back and forth. This protective film has proven itself extremely well. After that, my carpets and floors looked perfect and the sales people didn't trip over the foil or even notice it. I have previously used the two foot wide version of this product. I would recommend the 3 foot version. Your feet are 1-2 feet apart as you walk forward. However, you will need some extra clearance to keep the rug from snagging. For the two foot wide version, I joined two of them into a four foot wide track. That's exaggerated. With the 3ft version, you only need to install the runner once, and you have just enough room to keep your carpet and flooring intact. The tape is strong and holds up well. Mine lasted a few weeks. Adhesion is strong to keep it anywhere. They recommend not leaving it in place for more than 90 days and I agree with that. It's a fairly strong adhesive and if you leave it on for too long it can start to remove carpet fibers when you peel off the film. However, I don't see a problem for a few months if you really need it that long. For longer periods, you can delete the original and create a new path.
