Review on Uniden MHS335BT Floating Bluetooth Submersible by David Crowder

The best options are the best in marine electronics

First I want to say that this radio worked pretty well when it worked. The sound was clear and the range was good. The screen was bright and the battery life was good. However, there are some design flaws. First, it's a battery clip. Our clip broke within a month of owning the radio (attached with a zip tie around the entire radio). It wasn't just our ship that had this problem as we've seen at least one other cruiser with the exact same problem (it became a table joke that evening). Second, it's the "snorkel" feature. By submersible they mean you can drop it in a 2 inch deep puddle and if you pull it right back out you should be fine. However, nothing deeper than that will survive. Ours died off the dock after a quick dive. Our friends died after just sitting in the boat in the rain (yes, in the water at the bottom of the boat, about 2 inches deep). Third, this is a terrible belt clip. There is no mechanism to attach the clip (it just twists and falls off). I had to lift the clamp off the floor 20 times before I finally lost it. I would return it as we haven't even used it for 2 months but that's too much hassle down here. Caribbean. Spend more money and buy a better radio. Our last PDA was the Standard Horizon and it lasted us 3 years. Thought I'd try Uniden to see how it compares. Eh, now I'm going to replace it with a standard Horizon HX150.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Good but not great

Takes the term "submersible" very seriously.
