I've been using this probiotic for a year on two of my cats due to lifelong gastrointestinal issues that started from the day I brought them home from the shelter as kittens. I used it more prophylactically. It won't hurt, will it? I haven't noticed any improvement with the chair, but one container was enough for a long time. It also comes with a measuring spoon. Which I found to rid them of smelly, soggy build-ups of slimy stools (or watery diarrhea). It was a MIRACLE that no vet could explain. They only need 1 or 2 visits to the vet per MAX year after starting Denamarin, with the very first normal, odorless, hard stools coming on within 24 hours of the first pill. 3 1/2 years nightmare stool disappeared literally overnight. A cat died of gastrointestinal cancer at the age of 9 1/2 years. I wish I could keep giving him Denamrin daily but he never got as sick as my other cat so I only gave him Denamrin daily for 3 months. I continued to give my other cat daily Denamarin. I have also fed lower quality canned cat food (Wellness) to an abandoned cat. The cat that got sick the most. breathing heavily, pacing, vomiting, then went to the tray. I fed Tiki Cat cat food. My cat was recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and kidney disease, so I switched from this probiotic to Azodil. Azodil MUST arrive cold and expensive but is said to help with kidney problems. I still continue my daily Denamarin. Now he has constipation problems. Constipation with mucus, does it make sense? Probably due to an electrolyte imbalance affecting his kidneys. Pumpkin has helped some with constipation. Therefore I would recommend this product as a "prophylaxis". I've cooled down. But if you have a cat with chronic unexplained diarrhea/soft or mushy stools, I highly recommend trying Denamarin. Don't automatically think it's caused by a food allergy, no matter what you're told. It was an INSTANT miracle for both of my cats. Denamarin allowed them to eat any flavor of canned food, no problem. I will always regret not continuing Denamarin on the cat I lost. Also, I fed him lower quality canned food than my other cat. I sincerely believe a GI virus is involved, or possibly flukes. Tritrichomonas is also very difficult to detect using PCR tests. It was definitely an infection. I hope this post will help anyone who is hopelessly finding answers to possible causes and treatments for chronic diarrhea/loose loose stools. Denamarin has brought relief to my cats for many years. It should also be noted that one should never assume that a cat that normally eats its food in one sitting and then starts nibbling on it for 15-20 minutes has suddenly become 'fussy'. Also, never ignore oppressive or black stools (I've seen a few of them). You should also not ignore struvite crystals as they can indicate what is known as tumor lysis syndrome. Massive death of cancer cells in a short time. God I miss that cat. Now I'm worried about the boy I left behind.
