At first I really wanted to hate this product. I know this may sound weird having spent a lot of money on a wall mounted cat tree. About a month after I received it - I love this product. Pros: - My 4 kittens (two 1 year old and two 3 month old) absolutely LIVE in it. - Thoughtfully and carefully packaged - Parts are very safe/soft. Fairly well designed system which I could see is easy to move/take with you if/when you move. - It was easy enough that I could install it myself, one person, without much carpentry knowledge. However, there are downsides! Cons: - You must KNOW your walls! as suitable. A resident of the Big Apple is quite difficult to make. It's not easy to simply ask the landlord for a drawing of the walls on which I particularly like to hang this device. Used a spike finder (fairly easy) but even that turned out to be inaccurate/difficult. I'm not entirely sure I even attached all of the shelves to the shelf or if they're evenly spaced. - The instruction manual could be more consistent - only found help on websites with walls and drilling pilot holes. a version of the manual that was not included in the physical manual that came with the device. While not requiring two people this would make balancing the unit much easier (having installed this myself I know there are shelves that are crooked or uneven but I feel this adds to the character of the unit ). - Requires some level of carpentry skills - Metal pots are not adequately sealed to keep water out. The seams on the black metal garden pots just seem to be done quickly, and nothing that significantly prevents water from getting from the pots with the plants into the black holder and onto furniture, carpets or objects. Under him. I would recommend NOT planting straight into metal pots but using them as holders for small plants and then taking the plants out of the plastic pots and watering them in the bath - wait for them to drain - then plant them back into the metal pots. I guess this design feature will get in the way of people wanting to saturate their plants by adding weight to the unit which could end up compromising it, so I guess I can understand why the pots aren't waterproof. Cloth and nothing else (tip: especially if your walls have more widely spaced studs). And NO extra screws. Consider adding a few extra screws and a bunch of fabric.
