Review on ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Kaytee Clean & Cozy White Bedding: The Best Pet Bedding for Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Hamsters, Gerbils, and Chinchillas - 49.2 Liters by Bishop Richter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Soft and fluffy, ideal for hamsters, as said by experienced owners.

As someone who has just started breeding a hamster again after five years of my last (RIP Yogi, you old fart), I was nervous about buying these bedding as the reviews were in the last time were random or not. But longtime hamster owners still highly recommended this bedding so I bought it on a good day and got two 50L bags (technically 49.2 but you know the semantics) as this time I wanted the best for my hamster want to give what i can get. It came out great, the packaging was secure, the bedding was soft and fluffy after being shaken out of the bag and luckily there weren't any major dust issues which is great as I'm very allergic to dust. I only sneezed once when setting up the cage for my new hamster (I got it almost a week ago as of the writing of this) but I was expecting it to be some sort of bedding and it was only when I tried to unpack the bag. My dwarf hamster burrows under it all the time (a good 6 inches) and even goes into the corner of his cage often because he holds them better than Carefresh as that brand is firmer than them. Not only does it not smell, I had no smell from my new hamster cage. Maybe it's too early to tell but I think it's still a good sign, I doubt it will be hard to spot cleanly as hamsters don't make a huge mess. Stretching a fluffy bedding is deceptive when trying to fill a 6-inch pan almost to the brim with it, as a hamster walking on it will flatten it over time due to insufficient density. I recommend adding another substrate to reduce this, aspen is great. It's not a big problem, just a lack of the material that makes up the product, but it's no big deal to cause damage. Hamsters and with good reason. It's soft, fluffy, safe for them because it's only paper, great for caves, and although the product's dustiness has been stated to have increased over the life of the product, it's also stated to not be as dusty as Carefresh. That's why I chose this brand and not that one. The lesser of two evils in that regard, but I'll still say it's for your hamsters because the pros outweigh the cons when you get a good bag.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
