I took a star off this product because it claims to be used as a lid lifter. I can be used this way, but with conditions. First, if you have a large amount of coals on your stove, you really should wear a protective glove. The short length of the stand when used as a lift puts your hand very close to the coals. Second, the design allows for the lid to be hooked, but the lid wobbles slightly on the hook. This can result in ash getting into the food or coals dripping off the lid. Third, if you're removing the cover (instead of just twisting it), you need a good place to install it. In most cases, it's best to put it on a stand that you hold in your hands. It's embarrassing. So as a stand it's a great product, it's sturdy and well made. It will work as a lid lifter, but you're much better off getting a dedicated lid lifter.
