This is the second bed of this type (XL - 50 inches) that I have bought for my small Great Dane (90 pounds). . The zipper on the first bed broke and I had to get rid of it. The fluffy fabric on the previous bed was also constantly zipped up when removed and replaced for washing. I understand that the cover can be removed. It's just harder than it should be because of the fabric and the zipper itself. HOWEVER, my dog was so excited when he saw this that he ran right up to him and curled up. I think I will always have one of these beds!
