, I am about to share my long journey of researching glue gun. It sounds strange, but working with paper and detailed paper models requires a decent glue gun. I've tried a few things so far. The first shotgun was the Surebonder mini 195-F. I chose it for its small size and small tip. It worked well, the stand sucked and kept falling off, but it worked as well as I needed it to. The head part of the project was completed without any problems. The problem with the stand on the Mini, it's made of plastic and falls off immediately. As a result, the gun fell off my desk and the tip broke off, so after only a few weeks of purchase I had to buy a new glue gun. I was furious, so I took the risk of buying another gun. As the second gun I chose the Gorilla Glue hot glue gun. I never knew they made hot glue guns but hey their glue is great so what could go wrong? I learned very quickly what a "good hot glue gun" is. The trigger was unpredictable, it clogged, leaked back, leaked and the heat was very erratic. It was garbage and I sent it back. The next glue gun was the SureBonder DT-360F. When I received it it was larger than I expected (I was about to order a new Mini). The tip hole was too big. I fired a broken glue gun (Surebonder Mini) and hobbled around trying Gorilla glue sticks, it made a huge mess. When I held the glue gun vertically, the glue flowed out of the tip. The gorilla glue sticks were rubbish and not high temp as advertised. They were also returned. I ordered replacement tips for the large SureBonder and matching glue sticks and suddenly I experienced glue bliss (as if such a thing could exist). Now I'm on my second gun. The first failed due to my own negligence and waiting for a replacement. So, this is what makes this gun good: - Replacement tips mean you don't have to replace the whole gun if you drop it - It's in "good" standing - Heating temperature is constant so application is predictable - Replaceable Tip means versatility, big bore or small, flat, etc., it's up to you - No glue clogging - Trigger action begins as soon as the trigger is pulled, no "dead zones" where glue flows unpredictably - has some weight and double temperature for different types of glue. Final Remarks - It's all about the glue. A lot of. If you find leaks etc, you may be using the wrong glue. Some manufacturers make an adhesive that works best for their gun and temperature. It is really important. Buy a gun where you know you can get glue in bulk easily and cheaply. If the glue is too thin, it may not be suitable for the gun. This is very important when working with details. Also, the more glue you apply, the hotter it will be, since heat capacity is dependent on mass (thermal mass), the greater the mass (glue), the more heat energy it retains and longer. It matters how much time you want to have to maneuver the pieces, or whether you decide to finger press the drop or not. Good luck and have fun!
