Good LED Matrix + Rechargeable Battery Kit

There are cheaper alternatives but this kit comes with a battery and a charger and mounting hardware for hot shoe or hot shoe. I figured that any savings from buying AA powered flashlights would quickly fizzle out due to the cost of the batteries. This is my first LED matrix. The light is bright. The dimmer works well. I can't say anything about the color temperature. As with most other LED arrays, color issues can arise when flashes or other light sources are combined with this device. When used alone, the white balance seems good and the manufacturer claims a CRI > 95. More expensive products correct the "white" spectrum of the blue LED + phosphor by mixing additional colored LEDs. I bought this macro light with my Panasonic GX1+ 45mm PL macro lens. So many cloudy days in the Pacific Northwest. At first I thought I would use it as an off-camera light, but was surprised at how well it works on the camera's hot shoe. It's not as bright as the flash, but taking a shot with the lights on really is the way to go if you can. The downside is that the batteries make this device heavy. When I mount my small rangefinder camera, the center of gravity gets out of balance. It puts strain on my wrist, which is not very comfortable. I'm looking for a flash mount that can solve this problem, but it comes with added cost and complexity. All in all if you are looking for your first LED matrix this is a good choice.
