I knew wood was worthless before I bought the headset, but I was hoping that the sound quality would live up to the mostly positive reviews. First the good news. The build quality of the external components seems good, except for the headphone fit, which I found to be either too small or too big (there wasn't a suitable size), and the lack of foam on the kidneys doesn't make for a good fit. On the other hand, I didn't suffer from earaches/headaches from prolonged listening, which sometimes happens with foam pads, so this is probably a bug. Also, the nylon cord is a decent length for use in a front pocket and seems more durable than the regular plastic cord on other sets I've had. However, when the cable rubs against the body, it creates a powerful microphone; more than others I have used. A clip might help. The phones themselves are of course housed in a wooden case, which is very nice to look at and very light. Update (2 months later): I downgraded my rating to 2 stars to reflect that the rubber ear tips can and do detach from the ear tips when the ear bud is removed. I once lost one of my rubber earbuds. I also find the rubber too flexible for consistent sound quality. Sometimes the walls sink inward, causing deep damping that needs to be corrected. Also, phone cases would fall apart on one side if the cord was accidentally pulled. It's a good sign that the weak point isn't the solder joint connecting the signal cable to the driver assembly, but the case shouldn't have fallen apart so easily. I chose to seal it with glue, meaning that if the solder joint failed later on, the device would be beyond repair. me. A headset in this price range should sound neutral over the entire vocal range and then gradually taper up and down. However, this set emphasizes the high bass/low mids, causing some boominess in, for example, low vocals and bass guitars, and a noticeable emptiness in the mid-range, which negatively impacts vocals and music. While these shortcomings can probably be corrected with an equalizer, not every source I use has this option. So I have to give 3 stars. It's good enough for my usual scattered listening, although for overall utility I was hoping for a more neutral sound.
