Review on πŸ”Š Marine-Grade Black Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth - Clarion M508 Single-DIN In-Dash by Scot Hughes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great looking radio

First I bought it for the car. Being a marine radio, some of the characteristics that make it ideal for marine use make it a poor choice for a car. I can't blame Clarion for this as I obviously use it for other purposes. Unfortunately all DIN radios on the market look like transformers except this one. It has a surprisingly simple look and fits perfectly into the interiors of cars from the 80's and 90's. The looks of this radio is the best part. Everything else is just "OK". The lighting is terrible for a car. It's too bright. You can dim the display a bit, but that's not enough. The buttons are difficult to press. The sound is good (on par with other radio stations). Bluetooth works well and connects very quickly when the device is on. The Pandora control works well. I ended up disassembling the front of the unit and pasting a translucent amber film over the LEDs and display to match the lighting color to the car's dashboard. It also reduced the brightness of the lighting to an acceptable level for nighttime use. Gives a nice glowing look. I would like a special car version of this radio with adjustable backlight (color and brightness), better display and built-in CD player.
