If you want it to only light up when it's on, here's how to connect it. I used to replace a pump switch and wanted it to only light up as a reminder when the pump is on. The 12 volt power cord connects to the center pole marked +. The cable to the item you want to power connects to the paddle marked -. You'll need to run a separate ground wire to an unmarked shovel if you want the light to work. I was replacing a two wire switch, so I had to run a different wire for that purpose. It took a bit of trial and error to figure out there are no wiring instructions, hence four stars. The rest works perfectly. Hope that helps
