Great tool for camping or survival

If you have never used a magnesium lighter you will be surprised at how easy and useful they are. This is a beautiful kit complete with a piece of braided paracord and a carrying case. I have a longer 6 inch rod that I recommend. It's easier to handle and use than the shorter one, and as the magnesium is depleted over time, it lasts longer. It's amazing how many people don't read the instructions and are aware that the new rod has a protective finish that needs to be scraped off before use. So be careful and don't give up because the lacquered rod does not sparkle. about using these firelighters. So if you don't know how to use them, give them a try. on the second beat. And depending on your tinder, scraping off as much "starter" magnesium as some say isn't necessary. I just used a little sprinkles on my tinder. -- Use a good tinder (cotton balls, dry fluff, shredded dry leaves, gauze, dry moss, etc.). Then slowly add larger and larger pieces as the fire gets hotter. - Hit the bar with long hits, not light hits like you might do with a piece of flint. - Hold the rod close to the tinder to avoid sparks flying. Teach your kids how to use this starter. You never know when it might come in handy.
