These are excellent for sound absorption. I live across the hall from an elevator and could hear the neighbors talking and using it all day long. My neighbors in an apartment directly across also have a small child that for some reason squeals at the top of its lungs all day long. I was at my wits end and about to move out when I had an idea and put these up over the apartment door. I used a double rod with curved ends and put one curtain over the other, creating two layers of curtain that hug the wall around the door. And now I can live in peace finally. If you're having sound issues with doors or windows, I advise getting double or triple rods and layering these over each other. They're thick and heavy and have helped me a lot with reducing unwanted noise intrusion into the apartment.
