I just got this camera so this review is based on just one day of shooting. So far I LOVE this part. Solid build quality with a metal body, sturdy controls, and durable buttons/dials. Photo quality is excellent for a compact camera (I'm not comparing this to DSLR photo quality because that would be ridiculous). The camera responds with fast focusing and snapshots. I've taken a few shots where the focus was on the wrong subject, but so far it hasn't been a hindrance. The X10 is equipped with functions such as panorama, which can be used for vertical and horizontal panorama. Why not 5 stars? I wish it had a hydride optical viewfinder, but I could live without it. I think the updated X20 has it, but I couldn't justify paying $250 more for the same camera. Also, focusing in video mode wasn't very good. The camera was slow to focus on subjects as I moved the camera. I'm going on a week long road trip next week and will be using this camera to take photos with friends as well as candid photos and landscapes. I will update this review after the trip. I hope to be just as happy when I return! *Note: I purchased this camera from Revain (Cardinal Camera). It was listed as new but I received a used product! The box was opened, the battery was out of the box and in the camera, and the camera had already taken over 1000 shots! I was very upset about this but Revain support stepped in and saved the day! They gave me the option to come back for a new one or get 20% cashback. I opted for cashback because the camera is functionally flawless (as far as I know so far). In the end I paid 280€! Thank you Revan! ** TO UPDATE! Just got back from my week long trip of heavy X10 usage. A few changes/additions to my original review. Imprecise focusing can be a little annoying. Sometimes it focuses on the wrong subject, other times I press the shutter button halfway to focus but it doesn't focus at all. Focused several times, but there was no beep when focusing (not critical). Out of the 600+ shots I took, I had focus issues about 20-30 times. Still less than 1% of the time and that's acceptable in my opinion. Just a little annoying. Another thing I noticed is that the Auto setting tends to overexpose photos in certain lighting conditions. Thankfully, it has an exposure slider. I have yet to figure out exactly what conditions I need to reduce exposure for. The battery life is short. I took photos all day without using the LCD screen. Photos are displayed on the screen for 1.5 seconds after each shot, which sucks the juice. This could also be turned off, but then you can't be sure the camera is properly focused. The X20's hybrid viewfinder will really help in this case as you know what the camera is focusing on. I also wish there was a way to view photos without turning on the lens. If I wanted to view photos, I had to remove the lens cap and rotate the lens. I felt this would increase the risk of scratching the lens. Simply pressing the "Play" button on the X10 will not allow you to view the photos. The build quality remains excellent. The zoom is SUPER useful (at least for my shooting style). For what I paid I am very satisfied. Ultimately, I'd like to switch to the X20 once the price drops as it seems to have solved the problems I just mentioned with the X10. Overall, arming yourself with an X10/X20 for everyday shooting and a DSLR for more serious shooting would be the perfect combination.
