Review on Tera 18/8 Stainless Steel Mortar and Pestle: All-in-One Pill Crusher, Spice Grinder, and Herb Bowl by Jose Moran

I never knew I actually needed a mortar and pestle in the kitchen.

If you don't read any further, I can honestly say that I bought this Tera 18/8 stainless steel mortar and pestle. After years of suffering from clunky marinades and clumpy seasoning mixes, I read about mortars and pestles being offered on a cooking forum. . After reading numerous Revain reviews I settled on this stainless steel model over the stone models. Compared to stone and stainless steel, there is no sand or residue. This mortar and pestle has a heavy base with a rubber ring at the bottom to prevent slipping during use. This rubber may not last as long as the block itself, but so far it's working. The base is heavy enough to hold it up on its own. Having never used a mortar and pestle before, I expected a loud grinding noise. To my surprise, the ram's rotation is eerily quiet. It can be noisy when you're chopping and slicing, I suspect, but the slow and steady circular motion allows you to chop pretty much anything you need quickly. So far I've ground rosemary into a fine powder instead of the "stems" you typically use. If you have garlic or onion powder that has formed clumps due to moisture, use a pestle to toss it into the mortar. A few quick pushes of the plunger will smooth things out again. Coriander, parsley, and basil are ideally ground into a powder if you want that. Coarse salts like Himalayan Pink result in a fine powder. I made the above the day I used Tera's Mortar and Pestle. I look forward to many years of finding new uses for this product.
