I bought this recorder/player in 2012. I've used it quite often. It was factory refurbished and I bought it from a seller who offered great service, fast shipping and good communication about everything. This player/recorder is about as good as $500+ units. The recording quality is excellent. Can burn programs directly to DVD or VHS tape and transfer to DVD. You can record on another VCR, edit commercials on two VCRs, move it to where you have this unit, set it up according to the instructions to burn the VHS tape to DVD. If you switch to an empty channel after a VHS program ends and record that empty channel for a few seconds, it acts as a buffer to edit your recording, so the DVD marks it as finished if you forget the current tape. and don't write beyond the dead space you put in. It takes a while to set up properly, the instructions aren't really the best, but if you go through the whole booklet, make marks or notes or add stickers telling where that section of the booklet is before you go try put it on, it will help a lot. The remote control has a rather strange design, it requires you to press buttons for different commands to perform a command or two, but after working for a while you will start to understand it better and better. Like a new car. That's a lot more, but not enough space to write everything, but if you need very good recording skills, with special elements like scale factors 1.0, 1.2, up to 1.5 and up to 2.0 with a square box, which is displayed when you stop the DVD and press the "zoom" button, you can move the square anywhere on the screen and then press "enter" and it enlarges this square. Great feature. When working in recording mode, it is almost inaudible. The only downside is that when you insert a DVD, the device carefully scans the disc for a few seconds before it's ready to play. But this device has many neat features that most will enjoy IF YOU HAVE PATIENCE. This is #1! If mine fails I will definitely buy another one. It's good. UPDATE: September 2013: I still use this voice recorder and have never had a problem with it. Still records perfectly and clearly from VHS to DVD or vice versa. Recording from a TV is not difficult, and recording from it is very good too. If you're wondering if you should get one of these don't hesitate as it's a great machine and I'm very happy with it. The remote control can be a little intimidating, but the more you use it, the more familiar you will become with the controls. This device has many cameras that can be used for various purposes. Although the manual is a little vague, you can download it from their website and print out your own manual pages for whatever you need it for. Have fun!
