I am a man and have long hair. I have no idea how to tie a silk scarf and rags can't handle all hairstyles. These things are exactly what I was looking for! They keep my hair in order and because they look like hats I can leave the house at any time and no one will ask me if the girl chose my outfit. It's great and I've bought a few more. My mom really liked them so I bought her a pair too. They are a bit tight at the beginning but nothing special. Not to the point where it causes discomfort or anything like that. Definitely they loosen up after a pair of socks.
