5 stars overall, one star deducted because two of the three nose fasteners (the ones on the top of the legs that lock the leg angle) were so tightly attached when delivered there was nothing left. The strength of the hands allowed to squeeze them. (And I'm a 6ft 2in, 190lb guy with pretty strong arms. (warranty period)) they worked normally, and the hammer blow didn't damage the finish at all, which is a good indicator of the quality of the material. People with more patience could probably achieve the same solution by removing the legs with an Allen wrench and loosening the Phillips head screw at the top of the leg. For $400 it would have been nice if the tripod could be used out of the box, but that initial snag is my only complaint so far, and the elegance of the tripod design made it fairly easy to "fix" the issue with brute force. .
