Insufficient spring tension. I rely on the spring tension to keep the band tight around my waist for repeatable measurements. The high friction of the tape and the internal mechanism in combination with the weak spring tension means that the tape often does not retract fully automatically, especially when the humidity rises and the tape sticks to the skin In 8 trials on different days over 6 weeks , I measured myself 5 times. In these groups of 5 measurements, I have an average number range of 7/16" and a maximum of 12/16" with a waist of about 33.5". That's still better than fiddling with a simple manual tape measure, though does not work as well as my old retractable myotape I also bought a new myotape which is not as smooth as the old version but better than this 'Perfect' as it has more spring tension.
