If you're towing a trailer that's more than 50% the weight of the tractor, you need it. For me it was the right tool for towing a 7000 pound tandem axle cargo trailer with my yukon xl k1500. I foolishly towed it 300 miles on a standard clutch and it was a harrowing experience to say the least. I had this problem on the way back and I hardly knew she was there. No squatting, no rocking, and the steering axis felt noticeably more planted. With a load sharing hitch, my receiver is rated for 12,000 pounds. This one is good for 8000, which is a little more than my truck is rated for, so it's perfect. I don't want the hitch to be literally the weak link in the towing equation. For the installation I used a 1/2" ratchet with 14, 19 and 28mm sockets and a 10" crescent to hold the screws. You need a very large wrench to install a 2 5/16 ball with a 1.25" shank. I finally had an excuse to rip out my 15 inch crescent moon and huge channellocks. I haven't yet acquired the wisdom and patience that will make you stop and read directions, spread everything out, and think it through from start to finish before you begin. I just ripped open the box and started packing. To my dismay, I found that the tongue had a 1.25" diameter hole while my 2 5/16 bullet had a 1" shank. Then came the hardest part of the process when I drove around town for an hour looking for a 1.25 inch hitch ball. If I had taken my time and did a parts inventory, I would have discovered ahead of time that the kit includes a bushing that allows you to use a 1" shank in a 1.25" hole. Wow! Installation was pretty easy. The hitch is easily adjustable in angle and height. the cargo trailer is low off the ground, but the Yukon isn't. With an RV that tends to have a slightly higher frame off the ground, you'll likely mount it with the longer vertical length up, as shown in the instructions. The kit did not have a swing control system, but there are devices for it. I didn't need it. Connecting and disconnecting this hitch takes just a minute longer than a standard hitch. But she is HEAVY! big, you may have trouble wearing it. I would give 5 stars if it is made in the USA. I don't usually bolt Chinese parts to my cars, particularly important components, but as far as I know there's no American choice here. Welds and powder coating look decent enough. Some other products that have turned my truck into a damn fine van that I recommend you include: Tekonsha P3 brake controls and optional Air-Lift 1000 coil spring airbags.
