First of all, there should be a seat belt, and there wasn't. It just fits in my car and is secure. I drive a huge Ford Expedition (SUV). The smell went away after about 2 days and was unpleasant. My dog Caesar (golden) is small but still managed to stand up and bend over the midsection. Red-haired Penelope is even smaller than him and really managed to get through the middle part - she is nimble and fast, cover didn't stand a chance. If you look at the photos you will see a lot of things that look like cobwebs. . In fact, it was the cover itself that got ripped off when the two started messing around. What worries me is that she smelled for 2 days. On the 3rd day the smell was gone and I took the fluffy babies for a walk to give them a "settlement". I am disappointed in this item. But overall it's cool. However, I find the zippers poorly placed. I gave it 3 stars for durability as it wore out from the first ride with it.
